You may have seen a lot of laminated A3 posters (right) hanging off lamp posts all over Lewes over the last few weeks. This is because East Sussex County Council are making residents aware of changes to Traffic Orders by law, and are asking for your opinion on their proposals. There are many Traffic Regulation Orders that potentially are to be introduced in and around Lewes, but the closing date for the consultation is Friday July 20th 2012.
You can contact ESCC in many ways, either:
- Email – Parking.Consultations@eastsussex.gov.uk
- Telephone - 01273 336490
- Write – Philip Baker, Assistant Director of Legal & Democratic Services, Governance & Community Services Department, County Hall, Lewes, BN7 1SW.
I have already had an issue raised by a Malling resident who is very concerned that the proposed double yellow lines along a southern stretch of Spences Lane infront of Spences Court, up to Coombe Road will clear the road of cars, reduce parking, that may in turn speed the road up on a residential estate that has very many families and young children playing in the street.
And I am inclined to agree. Knowing Malling well, Spences Lane has a few blind bends that residents would probably not want cars speeding around, and in the absence of a 20mph residential speed limit, parked cars actually help slow drivers down around the area.
With only a week or so left with the consultation from ESCC, now is the time to get your comments made before changes are made to parking zones, parking bays and yellow lines in our neighbourhoods. Make your voice heard today, and do contact me if you have any local issues too. Cheers – Matt
